A total of 340 patients were studied under controlled trial,all suffering from Liver Cirrhosis.Organ specific Regenerative hepatic stem cells were used.60 million stem cells were transfused in 320 patients suffering from end stage liver cirrhosis having symptoms of jaundice,gross ascites,hematemesis,& brain clouding.By the end of first week post stem cell jaundice disappeared in 301 cases and in rest jaundice disappeared in 2nd week.By the end of 3rd week post stem cell almost all patients were free of hematemesis.Serum Albumin kept on increasing and by the end of 2 months all patients had serum albumin above 3.4 and ascites started settling day by day after that and 256 patients became free of ascites by the end of 3rd month.Post stem cell boosters included Tab Azathioprine which was continued for 6 months.Triphasic CT scan for liver was done every month and it showed improvement on every scan.These patients were labelled as free from liver cirrhosis at 6 months post stem cell.
Organ specific regenerative hepatic stem cells modified from pleuripotent hemopoeitic umbilical cord stem cells can regenerate cirrhotic liver even in end stage liver disease upto 80 to 90 % and this treatment is much better suited for decompensated liver disease patients as compared to liver transplant.
